Found this shoe buckle at a new spot and haven’t been able to get any info on the history for time period. Anyone familiar with buckles know If this is colonial or a later time period?

If I understand correctly, shoe buckles were used until the early 1800's when shoe makers were better able to install the reinforcing for holes and the use of laces took off.

I'd say 1700's all day. Could be either side of the Revolution though.

Looks pretty big, so I'm going with 1770's to 1790's. Shoe buckles kept getting larger and larger during that period until the fad petered out in the late 1700's.
