Found this button in Maine, appears to have 9 stars on it and reminents of gold gilting. No visible back marks or maker marks. Any help is greatly appreciated. Civil war? Revolutionary war? Maine Militia Regiments? Thanks!

Can't answer, but that looks like solder on the back, no shank.

Maybe it was a pin?

ETA: Add something for size reference too.
