Please help ID this Iron Handle?

Please help to ID this item my friend found in her backyard in Iowa. No idea of the date. Appears to be iron, maybe not a handle. Has anyone ever seen something like this?

I can't make out all the letters but I see co (company) on the end , what's the rest ???

Maybe a handle to lift stove lids? On wood cooking stoves. Maybe not, can't tell the size.

It looks like 3 letters above the "Co." The middle letter is definitely "W." Maybe "P.W.C."? The last letter is maybe an O?
Deciphering this would give a major clue. It does look stove related.

Looks like it would have gone on the end of a wooden handle, like this "Peerless window cleaner"
