My foreign coins (non-dug), I'm posting this just to share pics of some interesting coins.

Here are some foreign coins (non-dug), some are ones I brought back myself when I was in Naples and Genoa, Italy, and in Athens, Greece back in 1971 when I was in the Navy. The other foreign coins are ones given to me by a friend a long time ago.

As of the time I am posting this I still need to research the value of the coins.

First here are pics of coins I brought back myself in 1971

Note: the coin from Portugal I am assuming might have been mixed in with change I received in Italy or Greece, just like how sometimes in the U.S. we might occasionally get a Canadian coin in our change when we buy something.

Careful with that hammer

Really good post. I enjoy seeing coins from all over the world, it’s fun trading them too. I’ll try to put a few pics of my favorite foriegn coins tomorrow.

Thanks, we in the U.S. are so used to mostly seeing U.S. coins that foreign coins look, well, "foreign" to us. (but very interesting)

Some interesting and good looking coins there.:goodpost:

Thanks, there is one coin that is from a country that no longer exists as the country it was at the time the coin was made, the 1963 coin from the "Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia".

I am amazed I managed to keep those coins all these years I brought back in 1971 and since I kept them protected they stayed in the same shape as I got them, many of them in pretty good condition.

Great coins!! How did you make those pictures (with front and back)? You probably took a picture of each side of the coin, but how did you then merge the two images to form one?

Thanks, first I used this USB microscope to take the pictures -

Then I used the "Paint" program built into Microsoft Windows to crop the pics of the front and back to remove excess blank area.

Then I used the Paint program to open a "new" project with a white background large enough to paste those cropped pics into, then clicked on "Paste" and choose "Paste From" and pasted the pic of one side, then choose "Paste From" again and pasted the pic of the other side and positioned it next to the first one, then cropped around those two pictures to trim off any excess blank area and choose "Save As" (JPG format) to save it as a single pic.

If you need any further clarification just ask !

That one Italian guy with the hammer looks like he's about to hurt himself!

Still need to research the coins more but just checked on this one, on the page at this link -

https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces724.html

it says of the Reverse -

"Vulcan standing at anvil facing left divides date and value"

.......I guess for a "Vulcan" he was not being too logical

Maybe that's how he got featured on a coin...

You gotta be pretty damn tough to get on a coin over there, and be able to prove it!

Thanks to everyone, I really do appreciate the restraint in remembering this is a "Family" friendly topic section. I realize such a coin design might have some snickering like grade school kids after hearing someone toot after having beans for lunch

Doing research I just discovered that this Lire coin has a composition of Stainless Steel, I wondered how it stayed so shiny
Unfortunately it does not have any extraordinary value.

I wondered what the object was on the obverse of this coin was, research shows it is a plough, the coin's composition is aluminum.
No extraordinary value on this one either.

Thanks! Unfortunately I don't have Microsoft Windows as I'm on a mac, so I'll have to see if I can download a program which'll let me do that!

I don't have a mac, but I would think it would have a similar built-in program.

I just now checked and here is one, it's not built-in, you have to buy it, I can't vouch how good it is or if it does all the same things I do with Windows Paint, so do your research before buying -
