Anyone know of a modern Quickbooks alternative that will run on a Mac desktop? All I seem to be able to find is cloud based software and this simply will not work for several reasons.

I have been using Quickbooks, and went to update my system and now the MacOS is too new for Quickbooks and will not run. So, after dealing with Quickbooks and their attempts to force a $400 upgrade for a software that still is not 100% compatible (According to them) with the latest MacOS, I won't do that.

I also have extremely limited internet so cloud based services do not happen. And I do not trust any cloud service with company information or personal information of employees, etc. So....

Anyone know of some standalone quickbooks alternatives?

Thanks!

I am not any expert on the subject of accounting software and can't really offer advice based on having a lot of experience using such software, but I did a quick search and found a couple web sites that might help you with some possible ideas -

Not trying to be rude, but I've already exhausted the Google searches. lol Hence my coming to a metal detecting forum for help. There is only one I can find that mentions desktop version and that is AccountEdge Pro.

I guess the reason I am asking is because Quickbooks does NOT advertise their desktop versions, nor do they list them on their own website. But Quickbooks has made a desktop since they "stopped" in 2016. They make a 2019,2020,2021 but they insist you pay $500 and can't receive 100% compatibility with the MacOS until they patch them all, but they don't have a timeline. :( They're trying to push their cloud-based services only.

I was hoping maybe someone knew of another company that did something similar. That maybe offered a desktop version behind the scenes.

Reddit has become a go-to site to ask specific questions like yours. There are many topic areas (sub-Reddits). It's worth creating a free account just to be able to do this. Here are some related sub-reddits.

No offense taken, I thought you'd maybe already did some searching but figured I'd throw those results out there just in case they might have been of help.

I just thought of another possibility...........just in case you haven't already researched open source accounting software.......

You might try a search using the terms "open source accounting software" as there were results that came up using those search words.

I use a free open source image editing program that works great - https://www.gimp.org/ so maybe there might be a free open source accounting software that will work for what you need.

Here's just a few of the open source accounting software results:

Sooo looks like I lucked out.

I have a family member with an LLC they've closed and a recent copy of a Quickbooks with volume license. They are going to transfer the registration to me, assuming they can get through to QB support. No one's been answering their phones due to COVID, supposedly. lol

Thanks all!

And regarding REDDIT, I may start a separate thread on that, because it's something I have been curious about, but never got into. I have questions! lol
