Why is it that every YouTube metal detectorist now feels the need to make a buck off of their "fame"? Got an email from Nugget Noggin today promoting his new online metal detecting course! Are you serious? How on earth can you teach someone to metal detect online? Can't wait to see how much he's going to charge for his wisdom and knowledge of this hobby.

Don't get me wrong, he's a nice guy, but he's not an expert by any means. I've watched dozens of his videos and never saw him find anything significant. Seems kind of arrogant to be charging for his "expert" knowledge of this hobby. Just my take on it...

I don't follow many YouTubers, but I remember looking at his webpage last year and he offered classes.

I'm all for someone being resourceful. It might be exactly what someone needs. I wouldn't spend a dime there, but wouldn't give him a hard time about being entrepreneurial. Those that want to gain some knowledge from a familiar face on YouTube can feel free to do so. I say, "good on him!".

Sorry, but I'm getting tired of watching metal detecting videos where someone is plugging a flashlight, knife or something else they're being paid to plug. It's bad enough that I have to put up with all of YouTube's ad banners and commercials in the middle of video. The last thing I need is more ads!

I think if you want to do the you tube thing ... BUY ... a camera those one handed digs will holding your phone is lame

I guess i must have a short attention span. I rarely can watch a You tube video for very long By the time they get thru the two or three minute lead in I have lost interest and gone elsewhere. I don't need a coil swinging back and forth with weird tones playing. I dont need to see someone walking down the beach and watching the surf break. If you want me to watch your video make it interesting and don't use a bunch of fluff to make it longer. Grumpy will shut up now.

Nice enough guy but I’m not into funding someone’s channel or being a “Patron” for a person who refuses to get a job. I’d rather spend the 63 cents a day helping animals who have been abused.

I agree, everybody wants to sell mding equipment in their videos, takes the fun out of watching.

Absolutely ! The classic is a guy out here who has a channel and patreon page ( where people donate to his cause ). It's the whole WOE is Me BS. He told me in person he really doesn't care about them , he just wants their $. I have ran across him numerous times on the beach.

So he has a few videos of him detecting , opening up gifts and cash from viewers. The best part is on some of these video's he is posting from inside a casino , playing slot machines ! After crying how poor he is. Haven't seen any new videos lately from him. Viewers probably caught on....

So I don't do the Patreon thing or give anyone of them money. Yeah sometimes get tired of the ads, but im not offended. Youtube is a business, so offering me a free service, they have to pay for overhead and make profit somehow. I dont subscribe to Nuget Noggin and havent watched him for years, but I have no issue with him trying to make a buck. I would think some youtubers would have a lot of time and $ stuck into electronics.

If he can make money doing what he loves, I say have at it!

I have no problem with the guy trying to sell online classes. But the reason I wouldn't pay for them is because I know I can get the equivalent (or better) information elsewhere online for free.

Maybe he has some fans who love him for him, as opposed to his metal detecting adventures or abilities.

Some fans (in general, not just metal detecting) can be quite the interesting bunch...

It's just another hustle. I've always heard if you can make a living by doing things you enjoy, you are bound to find happiness. Nugget is doing whatever it takes for him to continue doing what he loves.

Robert Ferguson seems to be a nice person, making youtube videos for the regular guy to enjoy. You've even stated he was a buddy at some point, yet you like to belittle him here. Why?

He finds a lot of stuff you don't know about. He gets to hunt over seas as well. Look up Preacher Digger on youtube. Preacher Digger is Michael Heim. Michael is a superb hunter and has loads of finds people only wish they could find. He and Nugget went to Latvia along with 10 other guys and called themselves the dirty dozen.

Michael is a minister in east Texas. He was president of TAMDC for a bit. He has made the cover of a detecting magazine in Europe because of his finds. He also has a missions school in Latvia. Nugget hunts with him and vice versa. Just because you don't see what Nugget finds doesn't mean he isn't finding anything. He gets to hunt places we can only dream about.

I was referring to his U.S. finds. If I could afford to go to the UK, I'd find some amazing stuff as well. Sorry, but he's hardly the person to be charging for his "vast" knowledge and claiming it will be the ultimate online metal detecting course "in the world". The beginning of his latest video definitely reminds me of P.T. Barnum...
