I was detecting with my buddy Schweddy at his friends parents house recently and found this 1938 New Guinea one shilling sterling silver coin. Rang up like a silver quarter on the Etrac so I was a little surprised to see this pop out instead! The funny thing is Schweddy found a 1936 about five years ago and said he never thought he’d see another one come out of the ground. More than likely brought home by a serviceman after the war but the homeowner had no idea who or when that would’ve been. Must’ve been lost just before she moved in in the late 40’s. Also found the ‘42 Merc and the play money token. Schweddy added a Merc, Rosie, and a silver Washington quarter to his collection as well as a number of wheats for both of us. My oldest was a 1916D.

Cool finds - I love the foreign silver! I’ve only ever found one foreign silver coin over my 5 years of detecting. Mine was from Portugal - almost as odd as New Guinea! Considering how close I am to Canada, I’m actually a bit surprised I haven’t found any Canadian silver, but maybe someday. Anyways, congrats on all of the silver and the play coin - good digs!

Very cool finds. I've never seen a play coin like that one. Congrats on the silver and wheats. Love the schilling, neat looking coin. Good luck, Mark

Yeah the play coin looked good for a few seconds until I felt how light it was! A new style for me. Thanks Mark
