Silicone on coil?

Purchased a search coil at a garage sale the other day, someone had place silicone on the bottom? Will this effect the performance of the detector?

It won't affect the coil, but I would be concerned about why it has silicone? Is it to protect the coil or to cover a crack?

Thanks for the reply, it looks good but I guess I would have t strip off the silicone make sure no cracks.

Silicone sealant is commonly used on coil covers. I would leave it as it is.

Some folks use silicone to keep dirt etc from getting between the coil and the cover. May have been left over from someone removing the cover.
