Such an amazing year. I keep having to up my goal for the year and I have a good 2 months yet before the ground freezes. My original goal was to just beat the total from the last year. Then it went to 25, to 40, to 50, to 60, and now I am approaching 80! I am just raising it to a goal of 100.

This is my 5th year detecting. I started my first year with a Garret AT. I got out some and hit up parks. I found one silver merc that year. I dug a lot of junk. I had a whole plastic bin filled with the junk I dug. Lots of learning.

My second year after getting into it I was hooked. I needed the Equinox everyone said was the gamechanger. What a gamechanger it was. My coin to junk ratio was much better. I found a silver half that year and I found 8 silver coins total. Lots more time searching parks and curbstrips.

My third year got better. 2020! So much free time to go out and detect! I worked from home the whole year and was able to get out a lot and detect. Still running with the Nox. I was able to find 15 silver coins. Did a lot of research, hit as many public places I could.

My fourth year, last year, 2021. Again out with the Nox. Kept going over the same spots I have. Searching the out of the way areas at the spots. Mid year I went to a park to detect and found someone else there detecting! It was his second year in and he had an Equinox 800 also. He had found 1 silver coin the year before. It wasn't long and we teamed up and starting hitting spots. We both researched and found some fun spots to detect. That spot I found that silver half 2 years prior? I searched that spot so many times, so many different days. How could there just be 1 half there and nothing else? I did find two 50's bus tokens there in the same area.
We searched till the ground was froze and we ended up with 15 silver coins each! Great year!

By the end of 2021 I felt like we should be finding more. In the search for the "deep" silver I sure was digging a lot of rusty nails. Well I proclaimed I was going to buy the old heavy CTX for the next year as it was a proven machine and a silver finder. Then my hunting partner said he was going to buy the Deus2 and he started sending me all the sneek peek videos. I wasn't keen on dragging a heavy detector around if I bought the CTX. The first few videos of the Deus2 looked real good. It was so fast on processing! I ended up falling into the hype and put my name on preorder.

Now comes 2022. What a year! We are both out in full force with our new Deus 2's. We are out right away in March chipping away at the frozen ground just itching to detect. I had some silver dimes I buried in my back yard to test with a few years back. Could never get the Garret or the Equinox to give a good solid hit on them. One was 6" on edge, the other 8" flat. Always got the equinox to find them with a lot of work and hitting it just right, yada yada. In fairness my yard is filled with nails. If I was detecting normally I would walk right past them. It wouldn't make me stop. I take the Deus2 over and it locks right in on them. Screaming. No doubt a dig me signal. Awesome!

I hit all the same spots I have been hitting. We go over all the same parks. This year has been great as I have been able to stay all in the same areas. Everywhere I have been all year for the most part has been public. I had 2 permissions in the last month, and hit one new public spot this year. This has been a detector that re-opened all my spots!

As of today I am at 78 silver coins for the year!!! My hunting partner just past his 50 silver coin mark!!! What???? We have found silver in every park we had already hit over and over. Remember the park where I found the silver half. I have gridded that so many times in the past with any number of different programs on the Nox. I used the stock coil. I had bought the 6", the 15" and the 5x8 coiltek. By the end of the previous year I had felt like I was just out walking over everything, and I WAS!!!

I go back to the silver half spot with the Deus2 and find 3 silver dimes. Two of the silver dimes were 10" apart and about 8 foot from where I found the half! I ended up finding 23 silver coins at that park alone this year!
We just did a football field we had already detected last year. We found 7 silvers there last year. We found 12 there this year!

It feels good when you feel confident in your detector. I am not saying any of the others are bad, but they just didn't "click" with me. Maybe it's experience, I don't know. I still carry the Nox with me and keep the 6" coil on it. I haven't needed it yet. I tried it out on a spot after I pounded with the Deus, but I was back to digging rusty nails with it. With the Deus I am confident in my signal and have a real good idea what will come out of the hole. I have found so much stuff that we had walked over the last few years.

I am excited to see where our totals end up at for the end of the year. Now we are falling into the Manticore hype, haha. New tech is fun. I don't know if I will jump on it right away as I know I feel pretty confident with my set-up now. But I know my hunting partner will get one. It's gonna be interesting! If the manticore can open these spots back up once again will be amazing.

Here's to the goal of 100!!

Thanks! Ya I gotta get them together for a pic. I was waiting until the end of the year as I have them all in cardboard flips in a book.

Here are some pics throughout the year!

Great story and great finds! Some beauties there for sure! Glad you and the Deus 2 are making a coin finding team!

Jumped up to 82 FTY over the weekend. I found four more silvers. My silver dollar should count for 10 silver dimes. Haha. 18 more to go!

Number 83 FTY year out of the ground today, and it’s a big one! Only a 40%, but I’ll take it! Searching at a new permission, so hopefully more to come!

Got on another permission tonight. He didn’t want us to detect his yard, but offered a different property where a house burnt down. He said go ahead you won’t find anything there but nails. Well 3 silvers, two for me and one for my friend. Plus he got a nickel trifecta, with a V, Buffalo, and a Jefferson, plus a handful of wheats and some toy cars! Mine where hotwheels and my buddy got a dinky!
It’s always worth checking out!

#84 and #85

Very nice write up! Your progression very much mirrors mine with 3-4 different machines over the last 12 years….first years are for learning and mistakes, latter years for honing skills and getting deeper. NW WI would sound like a good place to tear it up, I just wouldn’t imagine there’d be an over abundance of hunters around. But this is also what I’m running into….public places are so wiped out using the latest tech that private permissions are going to be a necessity to keep the hobby alive, if looking for silver exclusively. That’s a great job by you guys so far to clean up the ones that are left, good luck getting to 100!

I made it out the last couple weekends. No finds the first week. This last weekend I found #86 hiding in the woods. It’s in real nice shape too! I found the dime and the pin about 20foot apart, and could not squeeze out any more old.

I was swinging I’m the middle of the woods checking out a new spot in the park I frequent. I had been swinging for a while with no finds. As I was in this new spot I thought to myself, just let me find one thing good. Then I’ll spend the next few days in this spot to try to find more! Haha. Then I got the sweet signal of a coin. I stopped dug the plug, and about 6-8” down pops out a memorial penny! I cover the plug back up and re-check. I’m getting the same signal about 8” to the left of the penny. Ok, another penny. Pop the plug to see a “one dime” sitting in the hole! Same depth as the memorial. Haha.

You're giving the machine way too much credit. You're the reason that you're finding more silver, not the machine. The longer you detect, the better you get at it. You develop patience and the ability to sniff out good spots. You learn to slow down and take your time instead of rushing through an area. You also learn to do a good spot to death until there's nothing left to find.

Bottom line, the machines helped you, but I'll bet you could go back to those spots and sniff out even more silver with an Ace 250 by now!

I found#90 Sunday. I also found some gold that day and a nice 1898V nickel!

Ten more to go! These will be the hard ones to find!

Here is number 91. Found this Monday. We tried a new spot, but soon learned it was mostly fill dirt. A lot of searching and found a few keepers.

#92-#99!!!!

Yesterday on a whim I decided to take the day off of work and try a new site a couple hours away. I planned out four places and headed on out. Well the first place was just insane! I think I found some virgin ground! I am excited to go back. I only had a few hours to spend here. But I’m those few hours I found 8 silver coins!! I hit the back of the field there and got ona a wheat penny and slowed down. Then started popping wheat Pennie’s. I had four. I moved along and started walking a line down the perimeter. I get an awesome signal and then out pops a Barber quarter! This is great! I keep swinging. Finish my pass and head back. I get close to where I will be passing the barber spot and I get a barber dime! About 2 foot away from the quarter! I make a few more passes. More wheats. A Buffalo. Then a Mercury dime! Awesome!
Time starts running short so I zig and zag thru the middle to try the other side of the field. Almost to my car and I hit another barber dime! Ok, I stop. I decide one more zig and a few more zags just to see what’s what on this side. Another signal, a Rosie! Then another signal another barber! Close the hole, recheck, it’s still screaming!! Open it back up and get a merc in the side of the hole. Close it up, next signal is a pocket knife. Another few steps another deep one! Pull out the Washington quarter.
I’m in a silver vortex, silver left and right. I’m getting another signal. This place is nuts! I came to my senses. I know my hunting buddy and I have been dreaming to find a site like this. So I left the last signal in the ground and packed it up for the day. It’s gonna be a fun day when we are both out there freaking out at the finds! I had to go anyways time was up for the day.
Going back tomorrow.
Today is rough, dreaming of what will be there! 8

Number 100??? I think so!

On my journey I found an old school that has been torn down and is being turned into a park. It was all fill. The grassy area I had already detected last year. I never found much of anything there in the past. I tried it again and didn’t get any good signals. I went over and tried an area they were driving over and knocked the grass down. I found a bird tag, then I find the odd thing. Rang up like a quarter/dime. I couldn’t tell what it was so I threw it in my pouch.
I got it home and washed it. Still couldn’t figure it out. Then I seen the reeded edge! I weighed a Mercury dime, and weighed
This thing and they weighed the same! It must be a silver dime that was in a fire at some point!
What do you think?
