Got out for a few hours today to a spot I’ve been to many times. There is a house next door built in the mid 1800’s but I have found quite a bit of colonial stuff there including 3 coppers and a counterfeit cut half 8 reales. My first find was a flat button with a broken shank but my day was made just finding something old. Then I got a great signal on the equinox, a solid 25 both directions and I was thinking I had a copper. At about 8 inches deep a small coin pops out, not what I was expecting. It beeps a 25-26 out of the hole so it must be made of copper. It’s the exact size of a 1 reale and I can make out a bust facing right and in just the right light it looks like a shield and crown on the reverse. It must be a counterfeit reale which makes two from this site. Pretty crazy to think that these people were counterfeiting coins which was punishable by death back then. I swung for awhile and dug plenty of shotgun shells and then I got a deep 18 signal. Figured it was another head stamp but couldn’t believe when a three ringer popped out. I’ve found a few around here but this one is the nicest and almost looks like it was never fired. Right next to it was what I think is a lady’s garter clip so I’ll bet there’s a story there about how these two things got lost. I found one more nice flat button and that was it. Fantastic day for just a few hours. I put the reale from today next to one I found a few years ago.
