Who likes photography

Does anyone have any photos they have taken of US Civil War re-enactors ?
I'd love to see some.

A few more.

GOD Bless

I started with my dad's Canon AE-1 with 50mm f/1.4 in 1978. Back then, dad paid for film & processing (I was 13), so it was great. When I got older, I found out how expensive it was, and stopped shooting for a couple of decades, as other things in life took over.

I remember in 1987 I bought the EOS 620. I bought a complete outfit, and then had to wait a week to be able to buy film. LOL! Used it a little, but became more of a non-shooter for many moons.

About 10 years ago, I got back into it, and dug out the 620. Realized later that the lenses I had would work on the new digital stuff, and picked up a 50D. I have a complete lens kit, from 8mm FE, up to 300mm (except for something with 9mm).

About 3 years ago, I started shooting film again, and moved up to medium format (mostly Mamiyas (M645, RB67 pro SD, C330), and some large format, as well as tons of classic 35mm's. Photography became a collecting hobby for me. In all seriousness, I currently have about 300 bodies and about as many lenses. It fills an entire bedroom+. I also develop my own film.

About 6 months ago, I got burnt out on photography, and the related equipment. Partially because I don't find Florida to be excitingly photogenic (how many sunsets can 1 person shoot?).

So now I metal detect. Haven't picked up a camera in months, and I'm ok with that, but I still like photography.

I don't know why I went into that, but I guess the thread title caught my eye, and I felt like responding. :)

I like to do landscape and travel photography. Here are some from my last trip to Korea and Japan.

I guess that I'm the opposite. I packed up metal detecting and enjoy photography more. Now using a Nikon D500 with a variety of lenses.

Nice photos Rudy, those cherry blossoms are beautiful.

Thanks Alan. Yes, we made it just in time for cherry blossom season in that part of Japan. Too bad it was overcast. A nice blue sky would have made a nice contrast.

Here are a couple I made with a radio-controlled airplane and Canon A620. FIrst is a view of autumn colors along a highway in northeast Texas. Second is a view of our house and property. We're sorta in the middle of nowhere, just like I like it!

No pizza delivery in this neck of the woods. We do Red Baron in our own oven. The mail carrier, however, does get a goodie bag at Christmas. My wife loves to bake Christmas cookies, cakes, etc. and is happy to share.

I also cut and drag trees off the road for the mail delivery lady occasionally. :D

I figured pizza delivery was unlikely at your remote location, I was just being funny

However I was not sure if you got home mail delivery or had to go to the post office, but it is nice that nice that you share with the mail delivery lady !

Hey, don't feel bad about not having pizza delivery, we live in a semi-rural area right on the outskirts of a small town and there is no pizza delivery here either, but we rarely eat pizza so it's no big deal

We are likely not anywhere as remote as you are, but in the direction of our back yard there is a lot of forest area -

Well, how should I say...I have always had interest in photography, as my grandfather was crazy about it and had a Leica equipment.

So as soon as i could....ask one as a serious birthday gift, (I was 11, back in 1966) I received a box camera from Kodak, using 120 filmrolls (12 pics a roll !! so I had to be careful not to spoil pics...)...

Now, 50 years later, I have a Canon DSLR and 4 lenses. I never "hooked", because of the lack of depth of scale on the lenses. I was so used to that (Ricoh Singlex and Praktica MTL5B) that I just couldn't "guess" the hyperfocal or the depth of field, even using the dof tester.

As a result, my pics were not always sharp, and that drove me crazy.

This is the reason I bought a Fuji X-T10, and that brought old skills and habits back into my photography hobby.

I won't post a pic here, but if you want to see what I like to shoot (and I do not publish everything), here's a link to my Flickr page : https://www.flickr.com/photos/brusselaar/

I have always been fascinated by the fact gear can produce something you otherwise won't be able to see or find. Hence my two favourite hobbies : Metal detecting an photography !

Body and lenses...control box and searchcoils...do you see my point ?

Happy clicks and beeps !

Nick

Lovely pictures Nick.
I wish I had got back into Photography years ago, although it's only really
now that I can afford the equipment I want, rather than getting the
equipment that I can afford.

I started off with Nikon, so that's what I am going to stick with for the
foreseeable future. Mirrorless do seem to be getting very popular now, and
am wondering if Nikon will bring one out this year to mark their 50th birthday.

Something I find rather sad nowadays, is that far fewer people are taking
pictures using cameras. I know mobile phones let you take some really
good photos, and that are handy to carry around, but they will never
match the versatility of a dedicated camera.

I was a a small zoo near us a week ago. There were lots of people with
their children and grandchildren. I was the only one using a camera. Some
may say it doesn't matter, but I disagree.
