Been detecting several weeks.
I can usually figure out what it is, until now.
This piece is quite dense like lead, but when scrubbed with brass brush reveals a shine like steel.
Too big to be a deformed bullet imo.
Found about 7 inches deep near baseball fields/ park.
Using a Simplex + in Park 2 mode

Lead will polish up like that. Could be a blob of pot metal. Or deformed bullet IMO.

Sure looks like an old lead slug. Old lead gets that whitish patina, and is usually a little harder than fresh lead. I think it takes many decades to get that look. The internal color you revealed looks like lead too. A brass brush scratches away the surface: implies "lead". You say it's heavy: implies "lead". The size suggests it might have been a 20 or 12 ga shotgun slug. Lead is also prone to becoming deformed like that.
