Found this 1.25 inch long by 0.75 inch wide tag / placard at a site in East Tennessee that dates from early 1800 thru today. It was probably gold plated originally. I cannot make out the letters. Any ideas? I have included pictures with light from different angles.

Looks like one of those elongated pennies that would be made in a press machine.

The tag had some sort of residual adhesive on the back that preserved the backside a little more. While a pressed coin could have been glued to something the gold plating probably leads to something else but it does have a strong resemblance.
