Hope this question has not been beat to death. I'm looking at a Garrett 200 for 12 yr old entry level. I'd like to stay in the $150 rage. He is 5' and 100 lbs, shoots skeet & trap in 4H and is an advanced game hunter. We don't know anything about metal detecting. Would this be a reasonable choice for him ? Thanks for your input !!

That sounds about right. Check some of the on-line detector shops. They often offer used detectors for sale and you might be able to get one for a good price. Ebay too if you are into that. Good luck and happy hunting!

My first detector I bought in 2009 I think and still have it.
Ace 250. It works well, just learn it's quirks.
I paid $212.00 brand new. It was a hundred more than I wanted to spend but glad I did.
I recommend Garrett for sure.đź‘Ť

I started with an Ace 350.

If I had to do it again, I would have started with a Teknetics Eurotek.

Better detector for similar price.
