A combination of work and hot, dry conditions kept me from hunting any the last 5 or 6 days, buy yesterday we got a nice 5 to 6 hour rain so I got out this morning for a couple of hours. After a bit of clad, a 22 shell casing and digging some aluminum scrap that fooled me, I finally hit a nice high tone near the base of an old oak tree and got myself a very nice 1943 Merc. The first image is just as I saw it in the hole.

Hello Beautiful ! I'm talking about the Merc. Congrats on a very good looking Merc. Second only to a Walker IMO on looks and beauty. Just been too hot and dry here. Hope to get out this week. Good luck. Mark

Great condition Merc! Looks like it was just minted.

Steve

Thanks, Steve. I've been lucky in that all the Mercs I've found have been in very good condition. Of course my oldest is 1934, so I'd be happy to have some older ones even if they are a little rougher!

Thanks, Mark. You can probably see from the soil in my pics that, even after 6 hours of steady rain yesterday, the soil is still a little dry.
