I posted this recently in the General segment but realized it should have been here too.

Discovered this scabbard in NE Florida. Turns out it’s a WWII German Luftwaffe Officer’s Dress Scabbard, type 2.

Either we were invaded or somebody’s war souvenir was lost. (ACTUALLY we were invaded. A German U Boat delivered 2 teams of German saboteurs to the East Coast. 6 were delivered to Long Beach NY and 4 to Ponte Vedra Beach Florida, about 25 miles from where I dug this. All were captured quickly and in ‘44 6 were executed in the electric chair. )

BOY, THAT'S A BEAUTIFUL, really nice

my aunt lived in Maine during WWII & worked in a restaurant near the ocean & always said a German U-boat captain ate a couple times there- she's gone now but don't ever - ever say they never did...

At least one time a U boat crew snuck in Mobile Bay, AL to visit family.
The family member who related this to me was a youngster at the time but remembers the family had to come up with a drum of diesel for them to make up for the extra fuel they burned for the visit.
I should have asked if that happened before or during the war.

At some point during WWII someone, probably a Nazi, broke into my grandfathers summer house went up to the attic and used a shaving mirror with a candle in front of it to signal a U-boat in the bay.
