the mysterious specifics of gravity.....

So I found a ring....not marked....rang up as silver...the more I looked at it...the more it looked homemade....so I did the Specific Gravity Test on it ! It is 10.42 which is pretty darn close to silvers 10.49....sooo...I am saying it's silver. Oh also the acid test came back positive....but that one always confuses me...."red means silver", "creamy means silver". Now the Specific Gravity Test is my new favorite test ! AND it sounds so fancy ("hey let's take this one to my secret laboratory and run a specific gravity test on it") but it's pretty darn simple. Now you guys can tell me that I've got it all wrong...lol. Oh ..almost forgot....in the second picture I put the ring next to a boulder I found on the beach this morning....so you can get an idea of its actual size... :D

That's my go to test when I am in doubt.

Boulder?
10.49? is that the grade for pure or sterling?
I will have to check into the specific gravity test.
Peace, love and Bobby Sherman!

Oh I meant to check that. 10.49 is for pure....10.37 is sterling....so even closer than I thought

Woah. I had to go to wikipedia to explain this. Seems like pure silver weighs different than sterling? By like 0.10.

Looks like this is another way to measure pureness?
