Great Seal button Question

Hi,

Let me start by saying I know absolutely nothing about buttons. I found this today. From what I can tell this is a Great Seal button and was probably made by Evan's and Co. due to the letters NORTHATTLE... on the back.

Can anyone tell me any kind of date? I was curious how old this is. I think it's pre-1945 because of the maker, but can anyone help to narrow it down more?

Finally, there is some kind of brown corrosion on it. What's the best way to clean it up more? As of now I've only used water and a soft toothbrush.

Thanks for all your help!

If you could determine if it was black at one time, that would narrow it down to WWI. Hard to tell from the pictures

To me it looks like some brass coating still on the button. Then it would be WWii. I'm no button expert.

The Great Seal button was introduced in 1902. They were black or gilt from 1910-1917. Black only from 1917-1923 and gilt thereafter.
