Old copper item

I have been detecting for about 15 years now and on the forum almost as long and I have never seen anything like this before.
I found this thin copper "canoe" in an area with an 1899 Barber quarter and four injuns.
Notice the two little tabs holding it together.

All of the old kazoos and submarines appear to be tin...
Plus this has an extra hole.

Possibly a long shot, but maybe a handmade knife ferrule? Something to cover the transition between an existing blade and a replacement handle. Copper is easy to work with, didn’t rust, and was accessible from scraps. The hole in the back could accommodate an irregularity in a bone or antler handle or allow some kind of decorative mounting fixture. From the size I would guess some kind of skinning or boning knife where a streamlined transition would be beneficial and a protrusion on the handle for maneuverability. I couldn’t find a picture to better show what I’m thinking, but I hope I described it sufficiently.

This item, whatever it is, is definitely NOT homemade. The tabs are too uniform in size and the edges too clean...factory made whatsit! HA HA

Leaning toward metal toy...but copper? Not what metal toys are commonly made of. Hmm.
