Hi, i was detecting recently on the grounds of an old (i think British or US) army camp in Northern Ireland.
I came across a fork which reads 3388676 on the front, stamped.
The rear is stamped "Mappin & Webb 1940".

I am wondering what exactly the number on the front represents? Is it a personal number or a regiment number?

Is there any approach which i could use to find out more info on who owned the fork?

Thanks!

Have no idea about spoons. I have found many of them over the years. They are neat in many ways. But I rarely keep them. I have only found a couple in really good shape though.

US WW II service numbers were eight digits, not seven. At least for the Army.
