I'm not sure, but reddit.com/r/whatisthisthing has been helpful to me in the past. Just yesterday someone on there identified my dug piece of brass as a part from an old chamberstick candle holder. Might want to try making a post there
 
Very interesting, could you post another picture capturing what it looks like flat on a surface? Want to see what parts of it are raised at the joint of the two pieces. I’m assuming non-magnetic?????
 
The forked piece on the back seems like it was a switch actuator of some sort.
