Whst can you see.

This is the coil on a metal detector i had to send back as a faulty unit......i'd just like to hear your thoughts on what you think you can see.

Looks like it took some impact damage from a sharp object

Looks like, Excalibur pimple? The old Sea Search horse shoe coils use to do that, can't remember the reason but it happened to many. Those were the Excalibur sword models.

What's interesting here is that some people are seeing a depression and others like myself see a protrusion.
If you look closely at the light and shadow it's clearly a protrusion like OBN described as a pimple.

Hard to tell what caused it. It could simply be an off gassing bubble in the epoxy or it could be bulging coil wires beneath.
Whatever it is, it's a defective coil.

It almost looks like the coil wires got very hot and bubbled the frame, but I highly doubt the wires would get that hot.

Spot on Bear Stalker........it was a bubble in the epoxy that formed while it was curing.
I bought the detector and had to send it back due to highly eratic behaviour on the beach,the top of the bubble was porous and it was letting saltwater into the inner workings of the coil.
