Well, detecting has been rough so far this year. Every spot with old farms on the maps is either junk city or grown in. But I did manage to save a 1904 ihp and this great milk bottle from one. Can't seem to find a match and it seems older than most of the same branded ones I find online. And it's purple!

Thanks for looking!

Nice find. It turned purple because it has manganese in it. Ironically, they put it in the glass to make it clear. Decades in the sun will turn it purple. I have a small collection of purple manganese bottles. I left them out in my yard in the sun for a year, and they turned even more purple.
Thanks! I knew they had stuff in them, I didn't realize it actually turned after sun exposure. It's more purple than the photo looks. It was sitting right on top of the dead fall.

Nice find! I can't offer much info. on it but from seeing the circular scar on the bottom I can tell it's most likely before 1920 and it's probably pretty heavy and thick. Yep those early bottles with manganese turn a nice shade of pruple from natural sun exposure. Not like those bottles we see in antique malls that have been artificially nuked to an ugly dark purple. Again, nice find!

Thank you! I was kind of figuring that time frame. Other examples of it dated mid '20s had a lot more embossing and even some with a checkered design, so I was hoping this one is a bit older being simpler.

I found two candidates for White Cross Milk; one is Frederick, Maryland, the other Boston Massachusetts.

1910 Ad in the Washington Times

I also found this on the document linked below....

"...the White Cross Milk Company, established
in 1909 on the north side of the B&O tracks at Wisner Street."

As far as the Boston, Mass company, I found this for sale:

1900's Milk Bottle

Anyway, hope that helps and grats on the find!
Thanks! I found it here in northern VA, just outside of DC. So probably the MD location!

Love the purple bottles. I have about a dozen. I read recently that they fluoresce under black light just like the Vaseline glass. I haven’t tried it yet.
