Weird heavy iron thing

Hello, everyone —

Used an ordnance map from 1863 to find a stable area for the Union Army near Alexandria VA. Pulled 2 half horseshoes, which is a good sign. But I also found this thing. Any help with ID appreciated. I only brushed off the dirt and muck, it’s in electrolysis now.

Interesting. Appears to have been bolted to a wooden piece. Doesn’t look like typical wagon iron so maybe it has a military application. Let us know if you ID it.

Thanks, all. I thought that might be it as well -- but the peg in the middle throws me off. The field was once a farm.
