Tough decision

No bad time for a good dog. Ask yourself which you would rather have, a good hot dog or C-Rations. I know where my loyalties lie. :rofl2:
I think you are right, that’s what made it such a tough decision. Also aren’t expired hotdogs part of the ingredients in c-rations?
Remembering back, we had set in for the night and we’re enjoying our c- rations when one of my fellow Marines said you may want to do something about that. I looked down and there was a scorpion walking up between my legs. Don’t know if he was planning on making my life miserable or not. I dispatched him and enjoyed my sea rations. Oh the joy of being young and dumb.

I only eat turkey hot dogs since I had a heart attack in 2020. Save to say, I rarely eat hot dogs any more...
Oh, you poor thing 😏 I’ll eat a few extra for you 😊
One of the guys gets turkey sausage sandwiches from Dunkin. What is a turkey sausage anyway. 😳

Not much fun when they run a thin tube up your arm and snake it into your heart. They sedate you a little, but you're awake for the whole two hour operation. Had that procedure three times with a total of four stents implanted in my arteries. Scared me straight. I still eat a little junk food, but I only have fast food two or three times a year now. Used to have it at least once a week before my heart attack.

Even after the third operation, I still had chest pains and angina almost every day for a year. Took that long to recover from my heart attack. The only reason I'm still here is because I never smoked. Smokers are much more likely to die from their first heart attack than non-smokers. Take care of yourself, guys, and watch what you eat. It will come back to haunt you later on in life.

Dietary advice: If it tastes good, spit it out!

Best advice! Would you eat something that was bad for you if it tasted bad? Of course not! Hot dogs, pizza, Chinese food, meatballs, sausage, pork chops and so on all taste good, so they're really bad for you!

How about, "everything in moderation"? I spent a career I fire/EMS and did occasional pickups/removals for a funeral home.
  1. Death is non discriminatory. Period.
So, do or eat things that you enjoy, but don't overdo it. I used to run marathon distances and only eat "healthy". The impact load of running ruined my knees, and my weight is up. So, how good was all that exercise... well, IMO, less would have been more.

You are gonna be dead a really long time. You can give up smoking, drinking and all "bad" habits. You might not live longer, but it sure is gonna seem longer.

I used run almost every day at least three miles or up to eight miles. I was young and just out of the marines and wanted to stay in shape. After years of staying in shape I met an insurance agent at our shop. He looked like death warmed over and told me that he ran every day and was a wreck. He over stayed in shape and paid for it. So I cut back on my running and as time went on I started to walk instead. I usually walk every morning and most evenings. I’m 73 and age appropriate in real good shape. 😁

You only live once. Enjoy it anyway you deem fit. Moderation is the key. I'm sure as heck not going to go through life only eating food that tastes like crap just because "it's good for me."

I only eat Hofmann hot dogs and you can not find those here in East Tenn. So when I go home to NY I pick up a bunch and ration them out through the year. Although last July upon visiting his mother in Fl. I stumbled on them at an Aldi grocery store in Venice, needless to say I was stunned, so I bought a bunch, froze them and home they came....🌭

My parents were proof of what you're saying. My father died from a heart attack at age 63. My mother died of a heart attack at age 62. They both smoked like chimneys, more than four packs a day between them. Neither of them had a second heart attack because their first one killed them both.

You only live once, so why not live as long as possible? Is eating junk food worth knocking 20 to 40 years off your life? No way.

George Burns started smoking at 14 and he drank. He lived till 100....haha ! Bottkmline is each person is different. Just because you are a health nut /non-smoker guarantees you nothing. Some of it is genetics. Being a couch potato or keyboard commando isn't good either. But I digress...

Genetics is a big factor that you can't change. I had a cousin who was at least 40 pounds overweight most of his life. He smoked for a good 60 years and drank a couple of six packs a week. He lived to be 89!

There's no guarantee that a healhly lifestyle will help you to live longer, but your quality of life will be much better. All the relatives in my family that smoked eventually developed COPD. They were always short of breath and couldn't walk up a flight of stairs without huffing and puffing. They all ended up requiring supplemental oxygen 24/7. Hard to enjoy life when you're tied to an oxygen tube up your nose all the time...
