This is for us old duffers.

I think all of us old goats wish we had stashed away more. I'm 69 and have been collecting coins since I was 5, I was going through my coins a few days ago and came across a small container that sounded like it had coins in it, but I could not for the life of me figure out how to open the thing. I thought about shoving a small screwdriver in the opening and prying,(but what if there was silver?) I tried popping in a penny, but it would not fit, so I tried a dime, then I was able to pop it open.
I do not think these were my coins, but something my grandmother gave to me.

Wow, sure that was a nice surprise ! Congrats ! :neat:

OHHHH that's the kind of little box I would love to find. That's a cool little box as well. Yep I remember all the coins given to me when I was a kid, but all I saw at that time was more candy and pop. So many things you could say if I only knew then what I know now.:frustrated:
Yep, I was about 12 when clad was introduced, so I had about 7 years of spending all silver coins to buy candy, soda, snacks and toys, even when clad started I don't remember thinking it might be smart to start saving silver coins. .......the "IF ONLY" also includes wishing I saved my comic books and baseball cards from back then too :iwish::laughing:

Yep I did too. I don't know how many Mickey Mantel rookie BB cards got wiped out in the spokes of my bike.:rofl2: No big deal. Their only worth between $18K to $40K today.

Reminds me of the VW van that I had for a short while back in the 1970's, it was somewhat roomy and fun to drive, but it tended to slow down some when going uphill
When I was stationed at Bitburg AFB in Germany I bought a worn-out VW Bus Camper, stripped it and converted another van that ran well into a camper. With my wife and 5 month-old daughter I drove over the Alps through Switzerland all the way to a small town in Sicily where my father-in-law was born. Met my wife's extended family there with my in-laws who we picked up at Catania Airport. After a short visit we then drove back to Germany by way of Austria. The old 40HP engine had a real work-out over the Alps with 5 adults and a baby aboard with all our luggage. On one long down slope I geared down as far as I could and almost lost my breaks just as we reached the bottom! One up slope I had the old beast in 2nd and 3rd gears for most of the very slow trip to the top!

White knuckle driving for sure!!

Wow

Yep, I remember using snap wooden clothespins to attach baseball cards to make noise on my bike wheels, I wonder if any of the cards I used would be valuable now :?::laughing:

 I can surely believe that !

I remember my VW van slowing down some even going up a relatively gradual slope, so I can imagine what the Alps was like !
