I spent 15 years on the Island of Saipan and did significant detection work there. Part and parcel of such work is UXO identification. I can't tell you how many pieces of ord I've come across. This helps the community greatly, at least on Island battlefields where remediation efforts have often been nonexistent.

For what it's worth: Archeologists view of our work.

Tough conditions for anything i bet. Without a clue to all the various ord types but would think some have to be very unstable. You chose a heck of a job, but there should be satisfaction as you surely saved some lives.

Just an FYI, but my father-in-law was stationed on Saipan and Tinian as a Navy flyer during the war.

I can only imagine the un-exploded munitions still laying there ready to go off if mistreated or accidentally hit. Be careful, and well done as well.
