Eyeballed this item on the surface of a trail on a 13 mile trail run around a local lake. Horses do use this trail occasionally. Looks like some type of pendant or ornament shaped like a star on the front, but the back looks like a buffalo nickel with an attachment. (It is size of a nickel) Can anyone explain this?
The strap end was on the same Trail, but not close.

Texas star concho is available from Tandy. Also the belt tips. Cool finds but not old.

 
Yes, now I can see many examples. Not sure why the nonvisible back would look like a buff. But it was pretty cool to find stuff on a trail by eye.
