This old house in town that is a rental has been getting a facelift. I figured it's the easiest time to approach em since they have crap in the yard from renovating already so no worries about digging some holes right? The women said yes so we waited for the overly tall grass to be hacked down before giving it a swing. I skipped work since it was a beautiful day and the last time I did that, we had a fabulous hunt. My very first target was banging so hard I thought it was a can! Popped the plug and there was a large round coin. We don't get a lot of large coppers in the Midwest so I wasn't sure what I had until we cleaned it up.....it wasn't U.S. but was still a cool bronze 1910 British cent. Two targets later, 1907 Indian head. Two after that a couple of wheaties. The barber dime wasn't long after and far down at all and we ended finding everything cool in 15 minutes. Can't help but wonder what that place would be like after it rains good. All three coins are in great condition. I need to clean em a little more with the toothpick but the best part of the hunt was when the guy came out to say hi. I asked his girlfriend/wife for the permission so I wasn't sure what he was going to say or if she told him about us when we asked 4 days ago. That being said I offered him a Wheatie and he said no thanks but........ he used to live in a small town to the South and could get us several permissions there! I was thrilled so we will definitely take him up on those. The summer started slow and we didn't get out until July and now I don't even have time to do all of my permissions! That yard was so dry that I think the only reason we heard targets was due to the density of the compacted soil. It hadn't had fertilizer or weed control in 40 years. We don't usually dig lawns this time of year due to the dryness but we've had rain throughout the summer so it's been nice being able to. Hoping our hot streek continues.
