Been awhile! Was able to get out for 2.5 hours today after not hunting since March
Dusted off the old equinox and went to a drawn down stream that has produced in the past. Today didn't disappoint. I hunted the main area I've had the most success at fpr about 45 minutes with little to show. I decided to pack up and drive across the street, which leads to the opposite side of the river. I started swinging there and not 10 minutes later a pair of guys are swinging right where I just was. Shortly after I get an IHP signal only a few inches down and dead center in the middle of the trail. I thought it would be a freshly dropped lure or clad, but it was a missed 1889 IHP
I made it about 100 yards down the shoreline with nothing but a recently dropped pair of prescription glasses, and noticed my company had already left. I decided to circle back to the truck myself at that point. Zig zagging along the rocks and mud, I hit what sounded like a tiny lure type signal, and it wasn't deep, so I for sure thought a trout spoon of sorts. Colorado, buoyant, little tigers, they are all over this area. To my surprise, a tiny silver disk popped out. I immediately noticed it was very thin and dark, dark gray from being in the water for the past 200+ years. A quick rinse revealed an 1788 half Reale, Mexico City minted
I did find a piece of Spanish across the river a year or two ago, so it's definitely out there. Just a tough spot to hunt really. Hoping to get out more now that the temps are dropping and the bugs are dying down. Good luck out there, and happy hunting!
