I had a storage unit to clean out back in Montana, so rented an Enterprise box truck in Missoula, had some good help loading it up, then back to Idaho with the contents. Returned the box truck to Missoula and met my friend Wayne for a couple of partial days of detecting there. I used my refurbished AT Pro, and Wayne used the Nox 800 for this hunt.
Our first day was this last Friday, nice weather with temps about 80. We ended up getting nine permissions in a 1940s neighborhood. Lots of friendly folks, some decent sized yards, not a ton of coins but we still did well. It was Wayne's day to shine, his first good find was a Silver GW quarter with a Jefferson Nickel on top of it, and he added 6 Mercs and Silver Rosies, along with a tiny Sterling Silver heart charm. I ended up with just one silver, a 1918 Merc Dime, as my sides of the yards that we split up just didn't have silvers. I did get a lot of wheat cents, a nice Buffalo Nickel, and a few Jefferson nickels. My coolest finds were 3 WW1 era lead toy soldiers, found in the front yard of one of the houses. We both got the usual wheat cents, clad quarters and dimes, along with some copper Memorial cents.
We detected again yesterday, Saturday, and my day started out great! I got the OK at a 1940s corner lot, my first coin was a Merc Dime, and it turned out that my first 5 coins were 3 Merc Dimes and 2 wheat cents, so a very nice start! Wayne's first coin was a Merc Dime, so a good start for him too. We ended up getting eight permissions that day in the same general area. I ended up with 6 Silver dimes, Wayne added a 1939 Silver Bolivar foreign coin from Venezuela, and another Silver Washington quarter. Other finds were a nice Sterling Silver bracelet for Wayne, and a child's play watch, coat tag, and other oddities for me. We both pulled a fair amount of wheat cents, and more clad. I ended up with 41 wheat cents, and added a 1945 Canadian Tombac nickel and a aluminum play money tiny coin. We enjoyed our detecting there, nice to see that Missoula can still produce some goodies from the private permissions. Pictures follow, Wayne's finds then mine, thank you for your interest!
