I haven't been able to get out for a couple weeks because of snow storms that jammed up any possibility of detecting, but also because my father-in-law had a stroke last Friday, and my brother-in-law passed away the very next day. So, family matters have been the priority for awhile. However, I have been logging in to read and see how others have been doing, and that was helpful as a way to put my mind on other things a little.

Anyway, today was the second day we had temps in the 50s, and snow has started to melt. I wasn't able to go anywhere for the 30 minutes I had free, except my own yard, but like many times in the past, it paid off nicely. I am just getting to try out the new Legend 1.11 update, and using the 6 inch coil. Cut to the chase...I went to a spot up by the corner of my house near the road (see the pic of the property with my Legend on the grass) and had a decent tone with a VDI bouncing from 25-28...dug the hole and about 4 inches down, I pull out a crusty copper, which turns out to be a Liberty V Nickel, toasted, no date. Check the hole with the pinpointer, and have another solid tone. Another small scoop, and out comes the Buffalo Nickel, also no date. The two nickels were close to the road, about 8-10 feet from the blacktop. The front and back of the Buff are better than the V. I also found 1940 and 1946 wheaties a few feet away.

To me, this was a big day. Lots of stress and worry the last couple of weeks, and the short break I had turned out awesome. For those who have read some of my previous yard posts, the property just keeps giving things to me.

With today's finds, since last year, my yard has yielded: 29 wheaties, 6 Buff Nickels, 1 V Nickel, 2 War Nickels, 3 Merc Dimes, 3 Silver Rosie Dimes, 1 Silver Washington, a vintage Hopalong Cassidy ring, and 138 coins overall. I hope I keep finding things here and there on the 0.65 acres that the house sits on.

Sorry to hear about your loss, and your FIL's stroke. It was great that you were able to do something to take your mind off sad happenings. Sooo, where EXACTLY is your yard at. Not that I would ever sneak in and pirate your treasure.:redbike::rofl2::digginahole: Well done.

Wow, your yard is yielding excellent results! It's neat that all you have to do to find something good is step out your front door. That buffalo nickel has a very unique patina!

I can somewhat identify with how momentous it must have felt just to be able to break from the stress & enjoy something relaxing. I still recollect, back when my sister was very ill with Lyme disease, one specific Saturday when @Wolf-Dog & I spent the afternoon berry-picking in the yard. Our hope was to tempt her appetite, but the activity itself was refreshing for me. Looking back, I thank God for the gift of this small-yet-big reprieve. I know that you & your family are enduring a very difficult time, and I want you to know I'll be thinking of you, and praying for you when I do... may your hearts be comforted with the peace that comes when we're trusting Christ. I do hope your father-in-law has a smooth recovery!

Thanks guys. The yard walk was definitely a stress reliever and the coin success made it even better. FIL is slowly recovering in rehab. It’s a long haul but we are staying optimistic. Happy hunting everyone!

Glad you were able to get out and clear your head for a bit. I love finding old nickels, so this find is right in my wheelhouse.

Congrats on the great finds. Love finding those nickels, just wished they came out cleaner. I find I make them worse the more I try to clean them....same with copper.

I can relate to the snow and the mental break a hunt can bring. Condolences for your loss and glad to hear the FIL is mending. You have a heck of a yard, wondering how old your house is, as it doesn't look that old in the pic, from what I can tell anyway. Great yard and finds.

I'm sorry to hear that your family has been going through some rough times. I'll be praying for you all.

Congrats on the neat finds. Your yard seems to be quite productive. :D
