Hello Everyone,
I am not sure how many people are still around from years and years ago, BUT if you are a long time FMDF then maybe someone remembers me, my username was GetDiggin back in 2018 or so when I left. Since there probably won't be to many who remember me let me introduce myself, my name is Rich and I've been Metal Detecting since 2011 (well I got a cheapo Detector when I was 13 which would have been 1997 hehe but I didn't get my real Detector until 2011 which was a Fisher F2, the F2 was the detector that really hooked me).

So that being said, I have Used & Owned sooooooo many different Detectors, but I also was dealing with and battling depression over the last 4 years (and still am, but trying to work through it! And hoping getting back into Detecting will help). With me being out of the loop for the past 4 years on the Metal Detecting side of things, I'm not up to date on all the newer detectors. Here are the Detectors I've owned and a quick run down on the positives and negatives for me.

1) Fisher F2 & Garrett ACE 250- obviously a starter Detector, worked great for what it is/was but not gonna go on about thus one
2) Minelab 305, 505 and 705 - I have owned all 3, they are also all great machines but overall they are just regular ol generic Detectors from a great company
3) Garrett AT Pro - I bought the AT Pro when I owned the Minelab 705 as well, and kept both machines. I loved the fact that I could use the AT Pro as my beach detector.
4) Teknetics T2 - I bought this one from a friend and didn't keep it long, was nothing wrong with it but wasn't anything special so I sold it.
5) Tesoro Compadre - I loved this Detector, basic barebones Detector but also the reason I loved it!
6) Tesoro Mojave - Was the only other Tesoro I owned and I didn't much care for it, I liked the Compadre overall more and also the Mojave weighed to much for what it is.
** Now we yet into the Big Biy Toys! Hehe
7) XP Deus - This was my first real "High End" detector and I absolutely loved it, one of my overall favorite Detectors. I really liked how versatile and adjustable/customizable it is! I am disabled with back & hip issues and I LOVE being able to strip down the Deus and having it only weight like 1.2 pounds while I swing it! Or if I want to go balls to the walls and wanna deck it out, I had all the goodies for it! I'd say #2 Overall for the Deus.
8) White's MXT Pro & Coinmaster - I bought these 2 used and they came in a package deal. I ended up selling them for a profit tho.
9) White's Spectra V3i - This Detector is by FAR my favorite Detector, and that is saying a lot because with my back & hip problems the nearly 5lb beast is heavy to swing around but I absolutely LOVED this Detector and REALLLLLY wish I didn't sell it!

OK, so those are all the Detectors I've owned over the years (that I can remember at least lol) beside the Fisher F75 LTD a d the Fisher F19, but I bought these only strictly for reselling, I never actually used them. So like I mentioned I am disabled and I do deal with back & hip issues, so the lighter weight the detector the better and the main reason I won't be buying another White's Spectra V3i (at least for right now). I ended up selling ALL my Detectors over the last few years except the little Garrett ACE 250, which my Dad will be using when I get my new detector. I like to beach hunt and I'm looking for one versatile work horse that I can use solo for everything for right now until I get back into Detecting full force. So all that being said, I am pretty sure what detector I'm going to go with, but the reason I still wanted to post and ask is mainly because like I mentioned eariler, I'll am COMPLETELY out of the loop, so maybe there is something out there I'm not aware of, or maybe something that is coming out very soon that will completely change my mind, BUT as of right now I have the Nakta Makro Simplex+ in my cart already and about to pull the trigger as soon as I see some responses, etc.

Since I am looking for a Solo Workhorse, I feel like the Simplex+ is the IDEAL detector, one thing I'm still up in the air about is do I pay the extra $100 for the wireless headphones? At the moment I I'm opting to NOT get the headphones, frankly I don't use headphones often, but the select times I use Headphones like at the beach, or around other people Detecting, I truly do NOT mind having wired headphones, but even so, if I wanted wireless I found this little gizmo I found that is a Hi-Fi/Low Latency transmitter for my Headphones! Can check it out HERE if you'd like. So ya, sorry for the lengthy post hehe, but what do you guys thing? Do you think the Makro Simplex is my best option? After I get back into the groove of everything, and I find some ideal/prime hunting spots I will probably get another detector or 2, was think about a Minelab Equinox 600 possibly for the next one, and then the other one down the road will DEFINITELY be a XP Deus 2, If I stick with Detecting again, I will 100% for sure buy a XP Deus 2! Okie well I am going to go ahead and cut myself off here lol, let me know your input and advice. If any moderator's think this maybe better in a different section, by all means toss it anywhere u see fit, I know the post is all over the place, but it really is a post looking for solid advice on my future detector purchase.

Thanks all,
Rich aka Locozilla

One added thing that maybe someone can chime in on. Another detector that I have been eye balling, but is out of my current budget (but depending what people say and after more research) for now, but I maybe thinking about the 'Minelab Manticore', I literally just seen this Detector on YouTube like 2 or 3 days ago and haven't watched the full video yet, so I'm still unfamiliar but figured it wouldn't hurt to ask all ya"ll opinion on the Minelab Manticore, what do you think compared to the Minelab Equinox 600?

Well welcome back this is just my opinion, you stated you were thinking about getting the Simplex for beach detection if I am remembering correctly, I do like the simplex a lot but I would not recommend a simplex for salt water beach detection, simple reason is the Simplex plus is a single frequency detector, you can connect your wireless headphones via the transmitter you linked other wise if you choose to use wireless headphones your only other option is to purchase the kit that comes with the wireless headphones, the Simplex being a single frequency detector will not work well on the beach from my understanding, I do not detect beaches because there are no salt water beaches in Arizona

My suggestion would be to look at the Nokta Legend which is a SMF (simultaneous multi frequency) detector, it is also similar to the Equinox 800, the Legend has a better build quality than both the Nox 800 and 600, the Legend runs the same modes as the Nox 800 the nox 600 runs one less mode than the Nox 800 and the Legend, being as to how you said you want to detect beaches I would give the legend a vary hard look.

The legend or either Equinox 600 or 800 would be better detectors for salt water beach detection because they are Multi Frequency Detectors they will run much more stable on a salt water beach than the Simplex from what I understand, my choice personally would be the Legend simply because the Equinox 600 and 800s do not have the best build quality, there has also been many documented Nox 600 and 800s drowning when dunked in water,

if your heart is set on a Equinox I would give the Nox700 and or 900 a serious look over the Nox 600 and 800 just because of the known build quality issues that the Nox 600 and 800 have been plagued with

just my two cents for what that is worth

I own a simplex, equinox 600 and the Manticore.

If you hunt beaches I would skip the simplex, like oldkoot said its a single frequency and while it will work fine in the dry sand it won't work well in the wet sand. I wouldn't recomend the 600 any more now that the 700 was released. Right now I think the Legend is an excellent choice for the price especially now that they've fixed most of the bugs. It has comparable performance to the equinox and its much cheaper.

With the manticore I would recommend waiting on it, its difficult to get right now and who know how many updates they'll put out , if your willing to spend that type of money you should also consider the Deus 2, as you've used a Deus you know its light weight.
