RESULTS>> FMDF Gift Exchange 2013

Yep, that's exactly what i do. I have a box and put stuff in it all year for the exchange. I might tweak it a little to fit who i get and something i may have that fits them, but then its just a label, postage and drop off. Easy peze.

That's why I didn't try it this year. Wasn't sure I'd even be able to send a package out with some things going on. Good idea to have something already wrapped and ready to go and just drop it in the mail. Lots of kind offers! I may make up some gifts this year to have ready to drop in the mail in case someone doesn't get their package next year. Maybe some of us could volunteer to have a make up send off next year?

I participate in another forums exchange with almost 200 people taking part. Number one requirement....the organizer who makes the matches for exchange has to be pm'd the tracking number of the shipment when shipped before "must go out by" date. That eliminates the "I sent a package but it must have got lost" thing.

Anyone violating exchange rules gets banned from ever participating again.

Okay but you can't say. Pay extra to make sure your package gets to the other person or don't participate.

And then you most defaintly should not say if you violate these rules then you can never participate again because these are the FRIENDLY Metal Detecting Forums.

I didn't see anywhere where anyone suggested to pay extra to make sure your packages get delivered. Did I miss something?

What's wrong with saying they can't participate in the exchange again?
I see this as only fair - if they "backed" out once they will probably do it again the following year if they are not stopped.

It makes it a more equal exchange knowing that the person you are paired with will more than likely send you a gift as they have sent you one. I feel bad for the people who sent gifts out to their exchange partner only to get stiffed in the end.

Post #163 said he is a part in a gift exchange at another forum and he suggested us the same. Read that post.

Here is the post you are referring to:

Where in this post do you see anything about paying? :?:
All it says that once you send your gift, you send a pm (PRIVATE MESSAGE) to the organizer with a tracking number of your package.

Where's the money factor you are talking about? Unless I can't read I don't know where you see anything about paying money to participate.

UPDATE

I ended up sending ParkHunter's present back to him in which he received.

Today he received the original present as it turns out as the coins were lost but the letter was still inside.

It's unfortunate.

Huh?

Thank you so much for your most generous gift ParkHunter. You made my holidays with your present. Thanks again.

List of what he sent me:

1856 O Seated Liberty Dime
1934 C $5 Reserve Note
1885-1985 National Parks Canadian Dollar 1/2 ounce Silver commemorative

Are you saying you mailed the coins and bill back, but they were lost in the mail?

Because not all delivery methods have tracking numbers. USPS charges extra if you want anything such as delivery confirmation, tracking, etc.

Therefore, requiring a tracking # can = requiring more $$

I have sent a few packages (USPS, FEDEX and UPS) and they usually give you some type of confirmation number when you send it without having to pay extra for it.

I understand what your are saying about paying extra for delivery confirmation, tracking etc... but all they want is a confirmation that you sent a package to your exchange person.

What's unfortunate, is that only happens when you send something! We are all pretty "FRIENDLY" here but I think were getting a little tired. FIX THE PROBLEM!!! enough is enoughSORRY if this is a little harsh, but come on what's it going to take? If sending coins through the mail in an envelope don't work once (Happen to me) it isn't going to work twice... Figure out a way that doe's! SIMPLE... No one on HERE hates you, but I and many others would like you to GET BACK IN THE GAME!!!!!!

I use USPS all the time. Priority comes with free tracking and $50 insurance. So if someone says it got lost they should be able to send you the $50:lol:

Imo this topic has been way more friendly then it would have been on most forums. I feel bad for the people that got stiffed and the bad thing about it is Some have the reputatation of other deals here on the forum gone bad in the past. :my2cents:

Are you saying you mailed the coins and bill back, but they were lost in the mail?

No. I messed up.

The original present that I sent out sometime after Christmas did not have the contents inside. So ParkHunter received it. He got the letter. But the coins were not there. So it was torn by the time it came to his house.

So I had to send his present back. And he received that with all the contents.

No offense meant but the way you word events is confusing. You say that you sent his present 'back' which leads one to believe that he first sent it to you- like a return- The shirt didn't fit so I sent it 'back.' :?:

I believe that you mean to say that you finally 'sent' his present. Did Parkhunter ever publicly acknowledge receiving it?

Im not trying to start problems, just trying to understand, you mailed everything, the envelope arrived to him ripped and without coins. You then, 1 month later, mailed him his present that he sent you back? Im just asking because I know you had some mailing issues around that time from an auction I won that my item seemed to take a while and messages didn't seem to match the timelines. Just curious.

Here's how it went down:

We got paired.
He said he sent it the day after.
I sent mine a few days after, w/ shipping and tracking in a secure bubble envelope.

He got his. I still didn't get mine. Day after day passed, "tomorrow" "tomorrow" "tomorrow"

It never came. I requested my items back, as I thought I was trying to be scammed. He took a week but sent it back (this is weeks after his gift never arrived)

I eventually received my items back.
Fast forward a few weeks-- just a few days ago, I got his letter. A broken letter, with a "contents missing" stamp.
So, something was sent.
Sent securely with tracking? Not at all.

There it is folks.

Correct. And lesson learned to always ship and pack more securely.
