Here is a very interesting video from one of my favorite Youtube channels, The History Guy, about Memorial Day, or as it used to be called, Decoration Day. It's worth watching.
Thank you for posting this, @RMEAV8R. We as citizens of the United States are so blessed to enjoy the liberties that we often take for granted. We truly need days like this one... days that we set aside to remember those who gave their all, so that "we the people" would be free. This freedom is not to be trifled with, for it comes with a cost... and the men & women who sacrificed are worthy of honor.
"My country, ’tis of thee,
Sweet land of liberty,
Of thee I sing;
Land where my fathers died,
Land of the pilgrims’ pride,
From every mountainside,
Let freedom ring!
Our fathers’ God, to Thee,
Author of liberty,
To Thee we sing;
Long may our land be bright
With freedom’s holy light;
Protect us by Thy might,
Great God, our King."
- Samuel Francis Smith, 1831
Thank you, @RMEAV8R, and the others here who have expressed your appreciation for our war heroes who have given their lives for our freedoms.
I, too, am very grateful for our country and freedom, as our freedom was not free, paid for by the lives of men and women who died fighting for our rights and protecting & serving our country. God has truly blessed us with so much.
