Hello,
Got out for a long and hot hunt this morning but finds make it worth it!
Two of the fields I have been watching were mowed today and I hit them hard.
Right out of the box a 91-92 on the manticore at 7" was the 48D Washington. Continued down the ditch picking up a few wheats and a little clad.
Jumped the ditch and started down the other side. Just about two feet from the washington on the other side of the ditch a 82-83 signal very deep. This was the aviator wings complete with pin!
Ended up with eight wheats and thirteen cents in clad.
Wings are marked sterling but no other makers mark.

That's awesome. You found half a pin then another one but full! Was the first half one also sterling?

Those are the wings of a USAF pilot. And a young one, at that. A Senior pilot would have a small star atop the wings and a Master pilot would have a star with a wreath around it. Its hard to nail down a year for those but I'd say WW II through Vietnam, if I had to guess. None of my very similar navigator wings ever had a clasp like that - mine were all two pin posts with "frog" clasps.

Thanks,
The place is a deactivated AFB that was in service since 1943. The instrument training school at Bryan AAF was the only one of its kind in the United States Army Air Forces until 1947 when it became Bryan AFB when the AF seperated from the army. Deactivated in 1961.

Two sets of Wings in just over a week, Wow. This one complete and then the bonus Silver Washington. Your riding a hot streak Tom, a well earned one for sure. Big congrats! Trapper

Very cool find Tom, congrats on the sterling wings. A bucketlist find for most I would imagine. Good luck. Mark
