Found yesterday evening in Toms Brook Va. Looks just like a ramrod for a muzzleloader just smaller obviously. 4 1/2 inches long, solid all the way through, still had wooden handle on it when I got it out and soon as I touched it it fell off but was able to save it. What’s y’all’s thoughts? Attached photo of what it looked like when I dug it

I have a few muzzleloaders so I’m fairly certain it’s a ramrod. Couldn’t find much online of to which gun it may be to didn’t know if anyone had a idea or not

Looks sort of modern. Thompson Center and others made ML single shot pistols using rods like that. 1960's on I think, at least I remember them then.

Muzzle-Loaders Bullet Starter

I've got several of these, they are used in rifles to start the round ball down the barrel (they have a cotton patch around the round ball too) then a long ramrod finished the ball down the barrel to the the powder [it's hard to get the ball started into the barrel]

Yep... good call Tinhorn3! I have and use those also as I am a roundball user.

The one's I used are wooded rods with a brass piece on it's end to push against the ball. I don't know what they might have used in their day

here's one of my rifles. I was hunting for deer & seen this old cedar tree over a cliff. If that rifle would have fell of that, it would have fell 90 feet...

Gorgeous rifle!!

I have to go with a ball starter for a black powder rifle. It is pretty hard to get the ball started using the long ram rod..
