Hope this makes since.... As I'm still learning the legend I have a question about vdi numbers.... I still run in default setting besides adjusting the threshold volume.... I was wondering if I could notch out 58-60 & not miss any good targets? I know iron can have a wrap around effect that will hit in the high end of the scale.... So will notching out 58-60 along with 1-11 be ideal as well as set the tone for those 3 notched the same as 1-11?

A half will ID at 54/55. A dollar will ID at 58/59. Now that's under perfect conditions. Slightly less perfect conditions and those coins will ID a little lower.

It's up to you if you want to notch those out in iron infested ground. If you decide not to, watch your Ferrocheck meter if you get a 58/59/60. Ferrocheck will normally show you if it's a large coin or iron wrap around.

Thanks for the input.... I'll just leave it alone & keep an eye on the ferrocheck when those numbers pop up

I like ferrocheck but once you get past 6 inches it isn't very accurate.

If it's ID is 58-60 and it's deep, you can try to tickle it in pinpoint mode to try to size the target, or you can lower audio gain to see if the target "shrinks" in size.

You'd hate to miss a big old silver target though.

I always just think "I'm out here to dig targets, not look for reasons not to dig targets."

Your questions have been answered well above. Here is a short 58 second video to give you visual proof.

Nokta Legend with LG30, LG28 and Nox 900 with 11" coils try to detect a 7" deep US zinc penny and a 9" deep US clad quarter. So first target is the zincoln and second target is the quarter. Two separate targets surrounded by bits of magnetite that a pinpointer will hit along with magnetite black sand size and smaller particles that exist naturally in the soil here. There is also some EMI.

Watch the Ferro Check meter which tries to work on the 7" zinc penny and basically does not work on the 9" clad quarter. Also watch the target IDs on the 9" quarter and see how similar they are for all three setups. Minimum and max VDIs on the Legend are 1 and 60 and on the Nox 900 they are -19 and 99.

Right, but unless a hunter is deliberately targeting only the deep stuff, then most of what is dug up is within about 6".

The graphical representations on detectors (as in FC and the like) seem to take third place in the target identification sequence. More specifically, tone is processed first, followed by TID, then the graphical representation. After the first two there very well be not enough information for the graphical display to provide an accurate response...if it does at all. Jeff's video is a perfect example of that. On a side note, given the tone and what I saw on the TID, I would have dug both those signals on both detectors.

I NEVER like to notch out any targets. Especially in the range you're talking about. Many things can affect the ID and when you notch target out close to those good ranges you're definitely subjecting yourself to missing something good.
