I've been out of the hobby for a while. What does everyone use for a pinpointer now? I had the White's TRX. I loved the depth. A shame Garrett never did anything with it.

I've had pointers from Minelab, Deus and Garrett. Just brought this GP Pointer home today for $15 off marketplace.

I prefer the Garrett to the others. But am curious about the newer Nokta that is supposed to be able to identify iron.

I used the TRX and loved it...I loved the idea that it actually detected (mostly ) off it's point. I now use the Quest X pointer Max. It's like a product improved TRX....it points off the tip, and has similar depth/range. The speaker is much better than the TRX, it is rechargeable and it has a ferrous discrimination feature which I find way more handy than I thought I would.

The only down side is in the cold, the on/off button seems to get a bit stiff.
There is another version of this pinpointer with a magnetic do -hickey in the sheath and a magnetic on/ off switch on the pinpointer body. I did a bit of research and could not find any good reviews of the feature so I bought the pointer with an ordinary on/off switch.

I've had 3 so far. A cheap chinseum , Garret carrot (super deep and my favorite) and the Nokta AccuPoint is pretty slick with a ferro check function and audio loss prevention feature. I carry 2 with me.

A couple of questions for everyone.... I am pretty new to detecting (2 years). I have never used a Pinpointer other than the ~$15.00 one that initially started with. I don't think that I miss anything once I start looking. So, what am I to gain with an expensive one?? Quicker? What does the Iron Function help with?.... Do you start digging and then the Pinpointer says "Iron" so you quit digging? Serious questions.... let me have it! lol!

The ferro check feature on the Accupoint was a game changer for me. It just works! Buy once cry once, you get what you pay for 99 out off 100 times.

How do you use that feature? Start to dig and then quit when it says Iron? Wave it over the ground and it says Iron? Didn't the detector say Iron? Sorry... just trying to understand.

I started out with the Whites Bullseye II and it was my go to for many years untill the Garrett PP's entered the market. I have four regular Garretts and one carrot. All work, and I swear by them. I would like to have a PP that was a duel use. One you could switch between 360*, or tip read only.

At one time all the old time hunters just grabbed handfuls of dirt and waved it over the detector coil. It was the only way. Then came pinpointers. They cut way down the recovery time by telling you exactly where the target is. Time is one factor. They also decrease the size of your holes. That is the energy factor and impact factors combined. By zeroing in on the target the help prevent target scratching with the digger. The last one is a little personal. Im 63. My vision is decreasing. Sometimes I just dont see that target in the dirt. I can almost guarantee if you use one you will love it. I drove 15 miles to a hunt site one time. I forgot my pinpointer. I went home and got it.

Oh, I use one and I love it. It just cost $15.00.

The Accupoint won't sound off if its ferrous.
Not sure I understand that. The detector tells you there is a target in the hole but if it's rusty the pinpointer won't signal it? Doesn't sound helpful, I assumed the pinpointer would give off a grunt on a nondesirable target.

My bad, you can set it to ignore iron.
