Of course you should never clean any valuable coin but this little trick is what I use to use a lot, just a plain ole pencil eraser. For some reason reg. erasers dont work that well. I timed myself on the back of this one and it took me 2 1/2 minutes.

Before:

Yeah, I wouldn't do that to a coin with any collector value, only modern coinage that will be put back int circulation.
 
kwhaff - was that damage done to lower right of coin done when you were retrieving it? :?:
 
no the damage was already there, that's why I decided to do it on this coin lol
 
Works well, but i wouldn't do it on any coin with some value to it.

I've done it on a couple worthless wheats myself. That reddish tinge you get after erasing will slowly disappear over time
 
I've done this since I was a kid on pennies that I have put in my album. It works.
