Went out today to a new permission. It was a school house. I seen it on a 1916 map but there nothing there on the older maps. I can’t find any record of it in the county school records. I found a lot of relics these are the notable finds. I found two IHPs 1890 which I gave to the home owner. The other is a 1899 A old bullet. I found this little two piece button it has something on it. It could be letters maybe GAB? Has any one know what this is? Over all a good day with some beautiful weather.

I just found out what the button was. A friend helped me. I new I had see it before. It’s a GAR button.

The Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) was a fraternal organization composed of veterans of the Union Army, U.S. Navy, U.S. Marine Corps and U.S. Revenue Cutter Service who served in the American Civil War. Founded in 1866 in Decatur, Illinois, it was dissolved in 1956 when its last member died. Linking men through their experience of the war, the GAR became among the first organized advocacy groups in American politics, supporting voting rights for black veterans, lobbying the U.S. Congress to establish veterans' pensions, and supporting Republican political candidates. Its peak membership, at more than 400,000, was in 1890; a high point of Civil War commemorative ceremonies. It was succeeded by the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War (SUVCW), composed of male descendants of Union veterans

Congrats on the pair of Ihps and GAR button MDM. I was lucky enough to find one a few years back. A bucketlister for me is a GAR medal. Nice of you to donate the Ihps back to the owner. Good luck. Mark
