Hey everyone, I'm pretty new to detecting. It's something I've always been interested in, and dabbled with, but have never really felt comfortable going out on my own to try. I'm Chicago transplant, now located in Lake County, Indiana.

About a year ago, I purchased a Fisher Gold Bug Pro 2 with plans of hitting up some local streams, and more recently picked up a Garrett AT Pro so my daughter and I could do more general outings (she's six). We've gotten out a few times, but her attention wanders and we end up collecting rocks, finding leaves, or stomping in puddles, and I end up carrying pockets full of rocks and sticks that she finds. While I enjoy the time spent with her, I just haven't had a chance to learn the equipment or find many targets yet.

So, here I am, hoping to connect with some more seasoned folks near by and and see if any of you would be willing to share a favorite spot or two, and impart some knowledge on a newbie like me.

I don't think I've developed a preference yet for coin shooting/relic/beach/gold hunting, but I feel like given my location, and the general interest that drew me to the hobby, they all sound fun to me.
