Hi Folks! I just wanted to introduce myself before I ask a question. I'm Mark and I've been detecting sporadically for 12 years. I've owned 2 Whites detectors, a V3i and a TM 600. I haven't detected in 5 years due to having a stroke and decided to go with a Manticore for my new detector. My question on the Manticore is what settings you would start out with in All Terrain mode. I know there's a lot of settings to choose from but I'd like to have at least something to start off with. I'll be detecting mostly parks and newer school grounds for now. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thank you for taking the time to read this.

Welcome aboard. What kind of targets are you hoping to find? Are you looking for a good general coin shooting program, or one to cherry pick silver?

For coin shooting, I personally like AT General as the base program with the depth audio theme. Recovery speed around 4 or 5 at most places. I like to leave a nickel slot open from 22-28, then accept everything from 43 and above. That’ll get ya IHPs, half dimes, most oddball coins and all common US coins.

If your park has a lot of tiny bits of foil, you might do better with ATHC. The ATG program will be less sparky in iron.

With the Manticore, you don’t need to run the sensitivity very high to get good depth. It’ll still hit super deep targets with the sensitivity set at 20-24, and it’ll run more stable.

Not to debate Rattlehead because he’s probably forgotten more about detecting than I’ll ever know, but in all honesty, I would just make sure you have current software, do a factory reset, stick it in All Terrain General, ground balance and noise cancel, and start swinging. Definitely do not need to run the sensitivity past 24 or MAYBE 25 but in parks or newer places where there’s bound to be trash, you don't need much sensitivity to hit shallow targets, it’ll “false “ like crazy.
There are so many settings on this machine, I’ve had mine for over two years and other than some tone tweaking I haven’t found too much of a need to mess around with the settings a whole heck of a lot, but I also primarily relic hunt with the hopes of finding old coins.
Welcome to the Manticore club! It’ll be a bit of a learning curve, but there are some great resources on Friendly Forum, plus YouTube.

Hey Matt what sensitivity would you recommend to run hunting farm fields and woods. I do the max 35. Is that necessary?

I suppose it would depend on the mineralization of your soil and possible EMI. In wide open environments I don’t suppose it would hurt to run it at max, I just personally do not believe it’s necessary to run it much above 25, (at least in MY soil conditions). Here in Eastern Oregon, I experience “hot rocks” which can be an issue if you’re relic hunting and searching for targets that are low-mid conductors.
All I know is that when Minelab was preaching “more power” or whatever the pitch was when they released the Manticore, there is a bit to it. IMO too much sensitivity on this machine negates what advantages it has over most machines (again, in my soil conditions and where I hunt)
Other’s results may vary or contradict mine.

Not to bring this thread back from the grave, but in case anyone is experiencing what I was dealing with in all terrain general...target IDs were so erratic that it was impossible to figure out what the machine was saying, and I couldn't tell what difference it made to tweak anything. So if you're having trouble with all terrain general (which is tragic, because I expected it to be a great place to start learning, and branch out from there), try all terrain high conductive. It only took me a month or so of suffering to give it a spin. 🤣
It's incredibly more stable than "general" for me. Even without adjusting anything. Just my two zincolns.
