Been hunting an old farm with occupation at least into the early 1700s. Today I recovered what I think are either two bag seals (unmarked)or possibly lead flint holders, a brittle tombac button (half dollar size) and two copper-alloy pieces that I can't seem to figure out. One looks like it was a loop with a threaded end piece. The other looks like a copper cup (penny-size) with the bottom broken open. Any guesses?

Sounds like you have a good location there! It's neat that you're uncovering items from the 1700s. Thanks for sharing your finds with us!

Your "copper cup" with the open bottom, looks like a shot coin to me, I found an Indian head penny last summer that was shot, the opening looked somewhat like that.
I'm going to have to have a closer look at it. I wasn't sure the metal thickness was that of a coin, but forgive the engineer in me for the doubt. I think you might be right. I'll post back with more when I can!
