I have been using the Grey Ghost Amphibians for the last two years that I have owned the Manticore and wanting to get a new set to have for a spare,,,,,,while I am happy with the Grey Ghosts, they do not block wind well,,,,,had the same issue in the past using them on my excals,,, am wondering who has used Tony Eisenhower, Thresher or Aqua-Tek for the Manticore and what you liked about them,,,,,gl hh

I use the aqua tek with the inner foam pads removed. Use underwater boost all the time. Do not block out wind noise just like the amphibians. I do own Tony phones enhanced audio. But with my hearing they sound more muffled. Keep them in the truck in case I need a backup pair. Do not think you can get aqua tek anymore?

Maybe put some Gel ear pads on would help? For me none of them fit perfect but do help, only issue is they can make a warm day into a blistery day..it gets Hot.
I thought about that and used to do that with my Excal but you are right, it gets HOT and in Florida, midsummer we are sweating in the water while we are hunting,,,,,I as well didn't find them comfortable,,,,,gl hh

Everyone is sold out of the Aqua Tek and when I looked again at them, they seem the exact same design on the Grey Ghost that do not block wind well,,,,,,I just ordered the Threshers,,,,,they seem to look like they wrap the ear more and may block the wind a little better,,,,I will see,,,,,gl hh

Weird thing is the aqua tek can get a sound like if you stick your ear to a seashell. Had some fighter jets flying high above me for a bit the other day. Thought I still heard them a long time after until I took my headphones off and the sound stopped. Lol. Fwiw the Tony phones slip off easier during a hunt than the GG and aqua tek design.

Did those speakers work out for you..Those were Aqua tek speakers? I made a set, using them and could not take them, too high pitched for me.. may give them another try this spring.

Funny the guy that made the Aqua Tech? Claimed he had the speakers specially made.. what it takes us to find them.... about 60 minutes..

Haven't had the chance to use them yet. Everyone's hearing is different. But I do not like aqua tek when used on the deus ll. Manticore I use underwater boost and 5 tones. I do like that set up. I do need to take all mine apart and correctly water seal them. That hot glue in those things was amateur.

I haven’t used the exact models you mentioned, but I’ve dealt with the same issue where headphones work great underwater or in normal conditions, then become almost unusable once the wind picks up.

One thing I learned is that ear cup sealing and padding matter way more than people think for wind noise. The Grey Ghosts are solid overall, but yeah, they’re not the best at blocking wind.

You might actually want to look at SIMOLIO headphones if you want a backup set that’s more comfortable for longer hunts and better isolated from outside noise. They’re technically marketed more for TV/hearing assistance use, but a buddy of mine started using them because they get louder than most headphones and block ambient noise surprisingly well.

I have a pair of Tony Eisenhower large cup blue divers' headphones with enhanced impedance matching circuitry and love them, super comfortable, quiet and loud, just what I wanted to increase my chances at hearing whispers & threshold nulls.

2 Tips:

1. Tony's divers' (waterproof) headphones have small holes in the bottom of both ear cups, to allow for faster & more complete water drainage. When I use them, I take some electrical tape and cover those holes, to keep potential wind noise down. After the hunt, I remove the tape, as I rinse off the headphones with fresh water, and the water will drain much faster from the cups.

2. Here's something I discovered that ADDS wind noise to headphones that we usually don't think about or discuss. Do you wear glasses or sunglasses when beach hunting? I never really thought about this until after I got Tony's headphones, but I wear glasses or sunglasses when hunting. If you place the headphone cups over your ears while you're wearing glasses, the shafts of the glasses that run to your ear can create a small opening in the headphones gel pads, i.e., you don't get a totally tight seal, so wind or other noise can creep in. So, what I started doing was to put Tony's headphones on first, made sure I got a good tight seal, then I put my glasses on and angle the shafts upward until they were resting on top of the cups. They were on there tight and held well, but I still think I'm gonna get one of those eyeglass straps to go around my neck, just in case, and especially while hunting in the surf.

Comfort is the goal for me. I hate squeezing headphones. I also hate hearing the wind. So the balance between the two has been a white whale for many years.

I have never been happy with GG headpnes, I got rid of all of mine, didn't like tones, as you said did a terrible job on wind noise. I would never buy them again they left a bad taste in my mouth.

Has anyone tried a shower cap for the wind? Pulled down over the head phones? I've been using my beanie cap pulled down over which helps some but the last trip out it was raining so I need something to keep my Go Pro external battery dry, thinking shower cap.

Might look a little strange but who cares, if I can cut a fair amount of the wind noise I'll do it.
Just ordered..

Wow Joe, that's quite a fashion statement, and is what all fashionable water hunters will be sporting this season. Always love CAMO!
