I’ve visited Gettysburg recently after many years of wanting to. Of course, while in the area I wanted to metal detect, but there’s not many options for an out of towner. But I did learn state parks are open to metal detecting with a permit. So I went to two parks 15 to 20 miles away, both with known history back into the early 1800s. I spent a couple of hours at each mostly fruitless. But I did find these five lead items. They have the white patina of old lead but no markings whatsoever. The lead ball was nearby and appears to have been fired and A corner shape notched in it. Each of them weighs right around 3/4 to 8/10 of an ounce or 23 to 25 grams. From the size and weight is there anyway to infer what they may have been?
The last item is brass or copper and was found on my farm here in southern West Virginia. I find many farm and car related items here back into the early 1900s. I’m putting this on here because it looks so familiar but I just can’t place it. Any thoughts?
Thank,
Charles
