at the downtown park under a bench I got a consistent silver/coin reading. I dug down about three inches and picked up a 64' half.:wow: I'll have pics tomorrow. I couldnt believe it. Just kinda sat there for a min. yaknow.
A sense of accomplishment and pride washed over me and I realized this moment is why i do this. BTW what was your first silver/gold item and how did you feel

First silver I remember was a 1924 mercury dime, was pretty excited and left the site to show my wife. I went back and got 3 more silver coins in that strip of grass. The first gold item was a gold coin, i was tempted to leave but this time I had enough control of my senses to finish hunting the site before going home to show her. Course there were no other gold coins in that spot.

way to go! now your hooked!
my first silver coin was a 1920 merc. for 7 that day at an old school along with a walking half. then it took me another 4 months before i found my next silver coin

Fantastic! Now you are hooked for sure.

I cannot remember my first silver find, but I remember my most memorable from my when I hunted as a kid ... a 3 piece silver find under a clothes line. Nothing really old, just 2 dimes and a quarter ... but I was EXCITED to show my dad!

Great job on your find!

Just found My first Silver

My first silver was a 1938 Merc and the local park--later that year I got my first John F. Kenneday--I actually sat dowon on the bench and Just stiarred at it :lol::lol:

Nice going! Mine was a silver Rosie under some old playground equipment.

My first gold ring was one of those large mens class rings...back in the 80's...first silver coin...think it was a rosie...but do not even remember... But I remember my reaction to the ring... I just jumped straight up and yelled yes! Now I can find things and you would never know if it was a gold ring or a memorial cent! I still feel the excitement but I am a little more careful about expressing it...

Last year I dug up two large gold rings in the same hole... Would have missed the second one if I did not check hole a second time.... Someone came up and offered me $175 for the pair.... I was tempted...but remember thinking....no one will believe me unless I take pics.... Oh and I wanted to put them in my collection...at least for a while...

Hey great job on the 64 half and hopefully more silver and gold is coming your way....... :)

gratz Dexter

I believe the odds of finding a half are greater than finding any other denomination silver coin, so congratulations on both sides of the coin so to speak Gil

Congrats on the silver I haven't gotten my first one yet , but working on it .
Anyway good job , your hooked now . HH Harold

I'll tell you, I have not detected for that long, only 5 months, but there's nothing sweeter than seeing the Silver coin comming out of the ground. Makes ones day for sure.. Two Mercs and a 1962 Washington so far..

yes it definetly has me hooked. Amazing how you look at the roads around you. trying to figure out how old buildings are. BTW I found an old church in Long beach and it still has the original church erected next to the new one. Where would be a good place to search. It's not alot of land but an old playground is across the street. And thanks for sharing your finds with me. Alot of good people here:yes:

still looking

I'm still looking for my first silver too.. came close today.. with a 1967 quarter. I have found 7 wheaties in my own yard so far.. so I figure there's got to be a silver coin or two here somewhere. Just need to find it.

right out in front is where you should look. backdoors to churches are usually just service entrances.

Way to go on the half!
My first silver was a '64 Rosie, and I knew it was silver the second i saw it in the dirt--it's a great feeling!
