Update on the cap gun I found on the colonial farm in my town. It's a "Bulldog" cap pistol Patented June 21, 1887. Cast Iron, it would have been manufactured from between 1887 until around 1910.
When I found it, it was a glob of rust. It pretty much came apart as I cleaned it. So it's glued back together and painted to reduce further deterioration. Fun find.
The pictures compare mine (on the right) to an example selling on eBay on the left. The picture from the back makes it clear why it was called the "bulldog."
