Is this a Pigeon Leg Band?

Any ideas? It looks like it says "WIS" "R O P" "GAND" and "J1841"

Maybe it is a Goose Leg Band and "GAND" is for a Gander?

I don't see any Bird Leg Bands that are 'closed' that way this one is. Any other ideas?

Yes, the more I looked and researched, the more it looked too big for Pigeon. I can't find any Bird Bands that close in this way.

Could be any of them honestly. Was it found in a farm field? A lot of times you’ll find bird bands like that in crop fields because they dump the clean out from those bird barns for fertilizer.

No... in town in a yard. We have lots of geese around. Also, I suppose it could have been from hunter-taken one. I just don't see any examples with that type of closure.

Ok, thanks! I didn't find any examples of a closure like that. Most just wrap around. This one is pressed closed... meant to NOT come off. Do the farm ones have the state id like this one ("WIS")? I am glad that I have found only one of these... 100's does not sound fun.

It’s possible it is a Department of Natural Resources tag from a bird they had been studying or whatever they do, tracking migrations or etc.

Yes, that is the first thing to come to mind. I tried looking on the WI DNR site, but didn't find anything helpful. I will keep looking a bit. Thanks!
