Went to a city park this morning picked up a few coins (clad) but the thing is, I always want to check the benches, swings, monkey bars, and not the open areas in between. habit I'll have to get over. Any of you do that?

Dude, swings and monkey bars are BANK! You gotta swing there! I always want to do benches, but alot of them are attached to metal supports underneath that always drive my ACE crazy... so i don't even bother anymore.

Welcome

OK, Dex, I have to ask: Is that a picture of you, or the "Dexter" from the TV show (which is one of my favorite shows)??? Oh yeah, welcome to the forum!

Someone once asked John Dillinger why he robbed banks. He replied, "Cause that's where the money is." I think the benches, etc. are the "banks" in the types of areas you describe. The digging is kinda tough because of the compacted soil that usually surrounds them, but coins seem to stay pretty shallow.

Respectfully,

I will buzz through a playground area but don't spend much time there. To much junk. In a park I try to find the areas where games are played, volleyball, batmidden etc. It's rare I find quality jewelry on playgrounds, of course like I said, I don't spend alot of time on them. Other than beaches, my best jewelry finds have been on sprots fields, especially adult soccor fields. Those guys all where thier jewelry. I also pull plenty of clad off the fields as well and don't have to pick through garbage to get it. So, I guess I would say in a park setting I enjoy the open areas more.

Right now in Fl its too hot to md the open areas,so I stay in the shade under the trees.

I tell myself I'm saving the open areas for when the weather gets cooler.:)

The only gold chain I have ever dug was in an open area of a playground. Swing the money areas first but do the rest!

I found a silver cross under the pole-tripod that holds half of a swing set up. And a tiny toe ring near another piece of equipment. And some coins under and very near equipment. But those were lucky days for me. Around my area, those places are usually cleaned-out. Overall, I've found a lot more stuff in the wide-open areas of the chips. I always hit the equipment first and hope the for best, but the open chips seem to be most productive for me. Same with the benches - I might find one or two coins under/near them, but a lot more in the wide-open areas of grass.

It's a still shot from Dexter the show. I absolutely love that show. So much in fact, that I downloaded season 2 from a peer 2 peer site because I could'nt wait until august to watch it.

Benches and swings are great areas...then high activity areas... then (some of the best) high emotion areas... i.e. lovers lanes.... 'parking' spots etc... RickO
